CodeCompass

Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 9, 2026

Overview

CodeCompass is a native macOS application developed by ecolution engineering gmbh. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data CodeCompass collects and how it is used.

Data Collection

CodeCompass does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data by default. Your projects, tasks, documents, and settings remain on your device.

  • No analytics or tracking
  • No user accounts
  • No cloud storage
  • No third-party SDKs for tracking

Network Requests

CodeCompass makes network requests only when you explicitly use features that require them:

  • AI Assistant: Sends your prompts to the LLM provider you configure (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or a local Ollama instance). Your API keys are stored locally and never shared.
  • OpenAI Whisper (optional): If you choose the OpenAI Whisper provider for voice input, audio is sent to OpenAI for transcription. The local whisper.cpp option processes audio entirely on your device.

Local Storage

CodeCompass stores your project data (tasks, documents, settings, chat history) in the application support directory on your Mac. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use cloud-based AI features.

Microphone Access

CodeCompass requests microphone access for voice input. Audio is processed locally by default (whisper.cpp). You will be asked for permission before the microphone is used.

File Access

CodeCompass accesses project folders that you explicitly select via the file picker. The app cannot access files without your permission.

Changes to this Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page.
